... with Kilian Kerner
The new German shooting star. The self-made fashion designer. The dresser of the stars. Kilian Kerner never intended to be a fashion designer, he studied to become an actor and only started to transform clothes from time to time.
After diving deeper into the world of fashion Kilian Kerner taught himself how to design while working closely with seamstresses. He then became the superstar of the German fashion industry while dressing international stars like Kylie Minogue or Karolina Kurkova.
With over 20 shows at the MBFW Berlin Kilian Kerner probably has seen it all. We asked him if he still gets excited, and what he thinks the future of fashion will look like.
What are you most excited about in your new collection?
Everything. The show, the story of the collection, the overall image with the hair and make-up. Just everything!
What are you looking forward to the most during your presentation?
For it to start!
Has the pandemic changed the way you work?
Completely. We outsourced everything and are now working very close with a production facility in Poland, which works out amazing!
Where is your production based? Can you tell us something about the factories?
Everything is being made in Poland. In Germany we do the designs, fittings and fabric ordering. The rest is done by the production facility in Poland. They are the best I have ever worked with.
Have you tried new production methods?
Well, in principle, more responsibility has gone to Poland, we have downsized a lot here in Berlin. It saves us time, money and it is better for the environment.
How do you integrate sustainability into your work?
No use of real leather, less package shipping, no production in Asia but in the country close by.
What do you think the future of the fashion industry will look like?
I don’t think about the future too much, I much rather live in the moment. I am so glad that after 2 years of a pandemic, you can finally feel a movement to better things.
