As one of Germany’s most prominent designers, KILIAN KERNER has been a constant fixture of MBFW since 2008. The 2021 edition, however, gives extra cause for celebration, as it marks the designer’s highly-anticipated return under his own name—for the first time since 2016.
His new collection RESET is about starting from scratch. Or, in the words of Kerner himself, “Life post corona. A collection and show that celebrates life and love—with some glamour, glitter and pomp!”
Overdelivering on his promise, Kerner treated onlookers to an elegant and cohesive co-ed collection ranging from dazzling gold, and iridescent white to monochrome camel, black and chartreuse—accompanied by slicked back hair and statement diamond earrings.
We saw clean, relaxed cuts with nods to utility on the men’s side, and a sophisticated, feminine silhouette, wrapped in sheer layers and intricate golden lace, on the women’s side.
It was a celebration indeed, featuring stunning see-through black tulle creations, lustrous floor-length body-con dresses and a show-stopping crushed silver coat and matching trousers with cinched hems. The pièces de résistance, however, were a refined black blazer and bomber jacket, both adorned with diagonal silver stripes. Kerner himself wore a gold version, as he walked out on the catwalk to receive the audience applause at the end. A fitting end to a new beginning.
