Marc Cain
Collection Recap
“Natural nonchalance” is the attitude that underscores Marc Cain’s Fall/Winter 2021 collection entitled How Wonderful… – a showcase of clear connections to nature drawn through fabric, cut and color combinations. Neutral tones such as sandy beige, pannacotta, butter and cream took center stage as part of monochrome outfits, while nuances of night blue, chestnut and mahogany added a moody feel. A strong red and bright pink was introduced for a more expressive, contrasting look. Complemented by faux fur, bouclé knitwear and shiny fabrics seen on dresses and shirts, coarse knits and elaborate jacquards form a dialog surrounding the colder season. As usual, prints are featured in the collection, with nods to leopards and lions next to feminine florals. The silhouettes this season range from oversized – short jackets with dropped shoulders – to deliberately figure-flattering dresses. Fringe on ponchos, cardigans or skirts is a new key detail at Marc Cain, matched with cowboy boots or peep-toe boots for a more refined look.
In addition to the fashion show, Marc Cain produced a fashion film for Fall/Winter 2021 under the same title: How Wonderful… Inspired by nature and meant as an encounter between two worlds, the fashion film plays with opposites: analog meets digital, nature meets city life, fluffy materials meet smooth, model meets avatar. “One of the most important goals and challenges was to emotionalize the avatar,” explains design director Katja Foos. “We made it happen because an avatar is not created, but brought to life through optics, movements and personalized design”.
