MBFW Opening: Mercedes-Benz presents Florentina Leitner
Florentina Leitner will open the MBFW Berlin with the Spring/Summer 2022 collection by her eponymous label on Monday evening, September 6th, at 9 pm. Presented by Mercedes-Benz, the collection is titled Vacation on the Moon. The Austrian designer holds a master’s degree from the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Antwerp and is a participant in the Mercedes-Benz Fashion Talents program, which was launched in 2009 to support up-and-coming international design talents.
As one of today’s most promising young designers, Florentina Leitner presented her Fall/Winter 2021 collection titled The Royal Leitners at the digital New York Fashion Week this February, shortly after she launched her label in London at the end of last year. She had previously gained experience as a womenswear designer, notably at Dries van Noten, and most recently was named the winner of the womenswear category at the Global Design Graduate Show 2020 in collaboration with Gucci, Arts Thread and i-D Magazine. In the last three years she has also designed costumes for musicians including Lady Gaga and Charli XCX, the latter wore her designs during her US and European tour in 2019 and 2020.
Her new collection debuting at the MBFW Berlin September edition, is classified in the semi-couture segment – a hybrid between couture and pret-a-porter. “What makes this show special is that, because of the pandemic, it will be my first real runway show with a live audience since my bachelor’s show in Antwerp,” says Florentina Leitner. “I had an online show for my master’s collection and my last collection was also presented digitally. For me personally, that is something I have been looking forward to for the last two years. Finally I can stop dreaming – a big thank you to the MBFW team for making this happen.”
