Salon Talk: Christiane Arp & Monika Jagaciak Jankic
How to Change Within a Constantly Changing Industry
In the first of three DBS Salon Talks, Christiane Arp, former editor-in-chief of German Vogue and co-initiator of Der Berliner Salon, speaks with Polish top model Monika Jagaciak Jankic.
You’ll recognize Polish model Monika Jagaciak Jankic – Jac Jagaciak, as she’s usually called – from the runways of brands like Versace, Celine or Valentino. She’s also a Victoria’s Secret Angel and has been the face of Chanel beauty for years. She got her break at the age of 13 when Jagaciak became the campaign face for Hermès Fall/Winter 2007 alongside Daria Werbowy. During this conversation, Jac reflects on growing up in a highly competitive industry and traveling internationally as a model at a young age. She has been a student at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago for the last two years, but recently decided to move to Berlin with her family: her husband, director and artist Branislav Jankic, and their 18-month-old daughter. Talking about changes in the modeling business and the rising fashion scene in Poland, she also touches on her choice to show herself breastfeeding on the cover of Polish Vogue in May of last year and gives voice to her hope of lifting some of the stigma that continues to surround breastfeeding in public.
